Finally had my first biggest accomplishment that will last for the entire year...

After getting numerous rejections and driving several miles around Dallas, I finally got a mentor! Her name is Dr. Kathleen Stokes, yes, the pediatrician that I had a strong gut feeling would make a great mentor. We were scheduled to have a mentor meeting this past Wednesday, but due to the rain and traffic, she was unable to make it on time. Like anyone else that would've been in my shoes, I felt disappointed. However, there was a valid reason behind her missing the appointment, and I was asked to come in the next day. So the next day, I called the clinic to confirm that Dr. Stokes was available to meet. When I had gone in, I had to wait in her office because she was working on some documents for a patient. After she came in, I gave her the official ISM mentor handbook and explained a few details before she began skimming over it. Indeed, we both agreed that the role requires a lot of time. But, Dr. Stokes said she is willing to be my mentor because she is currently completing her Maintenance of Certification course for the fourth time and will have more time. We also talked about the aspects of Pediatrics that I have been researching about, and she gave me suggestions that led to a research project that I will make sure to complete before I see her in two weeks. She said she was going out of the country with family but would take a look at the handbook in detail and later confirm her decision.
At the end of the meeting, I walked out dancing with joy. I felt so blessed that my wish came true!
