Finding a mentor to interview was harder than I expected...

For the last couple of weeks, I have been searching for professional Pediatricians and Pediatric Surgeons to contact in regards to scheduling interviews in search for a mentor. As of now, I have collected 31 contacts from around Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper. I had practiced how to speak to a professional by creating a cold call script and calling my teacher as if they were who I was contacting. After I received feedback from my teacher, I was allowed to spend half the class time calling. I was able to contact five professionals, but since they were all either attending a patient or not in the office, I collected their emails so I could send them details about why I had called. I am yet to email them, but I hope that I am successful in receiving a reply and being able to schedule at least two appointments by the end of next week.
During the other half of class, I have been working on my third research assessment. I was unsure whether I wanted to study Pediatrics in general or the specialty of Pediatric Surgery, but after I found an article that discussed the future of robotic technology in U.S. pediatric surgery, and my interest in technology, as well as medicine, drifted my attention to pediatric surgery. I hope that I can gain more knowledge of pediatric surgery and find more articles, and eventually a mentor, to help me do so.
